Artist’s Muse

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve has inspired, and continues to inspire, artists, writers, photographers and filmmakers. The incredible beauty of this special spot has been captured through many media, and if Point Lobos has been your muse we invite you to share. We are now building a community for you creative types to post your work, as well as featuring creative work from our rich past.

If you have photographed, painted or sketched Point Lobos you may submit your work through this website to be included in our art gallery.

If you have stories, essays or poetry inspired by Point Lobos you may add it to our writer's section.

Videos can be added to Youtube and we can feature them on our site.

How to upload fine art or photographs to the Point Lobos website:

If you haven't done so yet, create an account.
1. Click sign up
2. Fill in the text boxes for name, email address, password and confirm password and then click the "create new account" button

OR if you have already created an account
click on "login"

This will take you to a page that says: Contribute to the community. Click on the "share your Point Lobos inspired artwork" button

This takes you to the Share your work with the community page.

  1. Give your work a title.
  2. Choose the appropriate art category from the pull down menu button, if you are uploading your fine art, choose "fine art". If you uploading a photo, choose "photography".
  3. If you want your work to be easily found, fill in the tag text boxes with appropriate, descriptive tags (ie. watercolor, whaler's cove, etc...) Select a word or combination of words that best represent these pictures.
  4. Provide a description of your work if you'd like. This is the place to give yourself credit so include your name in the description if you want to "sign" your work.
  5. Click the "Choose File" button under Image: and browse on your hard drive to find your work. Optimally pixel size is 800px wide.

Images have file dimensions (width and height, in pixels) and file size (Kilobytes KB or Megabytes MB). You can think of these as size and weight. To see how big your image files are, use Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder and inspect the file.

Images with a large file size take longer to download. Your artwork must be less than 1.5MB. If your image size exceeds this amount please re-size your image. If you don't have photo editor software you can use a free service like picmonkey.com.

Click the save button.

Repeat this process if you have more than one piece of work to upload.

How to upload poetry or writing to the Point Lobos website:

  1. Give your work a title.
  2. Choose the appropriate art category from the pull down menu button, if you are uploading your poetry, choose "poetry". If you uploading prose, choose "writing".
  3. If you want your work to be easily found, fill in the tag text boxes with appropriate, descriptive tags (ie. poem, essay on butterflies, etc...) Select a word or combination of words that best represent your writing.
  4. Type or paste your writing sample into the text box.

Click the save button.

Repeat this process if you have more than one piece of work to upload.

How to upload videos to the Point Lobos website:

  1. Give your work a title.
  2. Choose the appropriate art category from the pull down menu button; in this case it will be "video".
  3. If you want your work to be easily found, fill in the tag text boxes with appropriate, descriptive tags (ie. point lobos hike, whale sighting, etc...) Select a word or combination of words that best represent your video.
  4. You need to upload your video to YouTube. If you need instructions on uploading to YouTube, please view their help section.
  5. After you have uploaded your video to YouTube, copy the URL of your video's page and paste it into the box below "Youtube video:"
  6. Provide a description for your video.

Click the save button.

Repeat this process if you have more than one piece of work to upload.
